World of Warcraft Item Upgrades Upgrades to items are a method to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it can increase the rarity of an item or mark Level, and also boost other stats. Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specific amount. Item Level When an item is upgraded, its base stats are increased in value. The value is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive depending on the person you hire and what you do. This is due to the variety of perks that must be altered to upgrade an item. The level of an item is a popular measure of power, and is visible on all item tooltips. It also serves to limit how much PvP gear players are able to wear since PvP is not available at a lower level. Players can view their average level of item on their character sheet. When deciding to purchase or sell equipment players can look at the level of an item. It's a sign of the item's damage and quality. Comparing items from the inventory of a seller can be done by using the item's level. On your PC, you can view the item level by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. Additional Info will display the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat. There are several theories about how the item level is calculated. One theory is that the level is a number derived from a formula that calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It considers the fact that various perks have different value and sockets have gems that increase the overall value of the item. This process can result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl, which is typically close to Blizzard's real level of the item. However, this is not the only factor that affects an item's ilvl, as the size of the area the item dropped in can change the value of its stats, such as by adding an additional level to its haste rating or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more the ilvl than items from lower level instances. Item Stats The stats of an item are a major element in what determines the value of an item for players. The game utilizes them in a variety of ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to one weapon and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The base stats of a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modifications, which are themselves increased by the player's skill. The upgrades to items add by boosting certain stats on the item. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. For example, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, while an item with the rare tiers will be upgraded several times, at higher costs. In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can select which of the available stats to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible ranges of stats for an item are determined by the level of the item, however all items are guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within that range, unless it's a unique item or the result of a God roll from a boss in a raid. Another thing that could be changed is the option to upgrade equipment without having to reroll attachments, or pick which stats to increase. But as with base equipment, this would have to be done on a per-item level, and the interface for comparing items would not display all the possible stats gained or lost at once. Item Luck The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the odds of item discoveries and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the strength of the properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is more useful for early game runs, because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains. In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chances, which increase with each level of the item. It is also possible to be enhanced by using anti-materials like the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing. The shields, armor and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to increase the existing Luck of the item up to 140. Additionally, certain items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow, can be equipped to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be found in the shops or made by using the appropriate ingredients. Item Failure Not all upgrades work. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to increase their chance of success or stop them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails. When you upgrade an item the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to the extent to which success rates can be increased and the chance of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%.. The luck of an item may affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has an initial success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional five percent. It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items, so enchantment glint and other effects may be obstructed by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
